Keep River No.2 Mine

It was an isolated occurrence noted in a geological map, close to the WAPET access road where Wapet were exploration drilling for oil in the early 1960s.

The whole area is pindan sand to laterite ridges and sandstone outcrops. The vegetation is mainly black wattle.

I used the Wapet track many times in the late 1960s to access the Keep River for barramundi fishing.

Indeed, the Wapet track was so good, we could drive at 100 kmh in places (1967/8). Now (2017) it is a 'goat track' to put it mildly.

Bob Joynes.
