This is a monument to Charles Sturt's discover of the Wagga Wagga region during his second expedition in 1829-1830. The explorers left Sydney and followed the course of the Murrumbidgee River from Jugiong. They were in the Wagga Wagga region around 6 December 1829. The expedition continued on down the entire course of the Murray and confirmed that the waters of the Murray-Darling system flowed into the sea.
