Rail wagons and young spectators on the eastern side of the station, afternoon of 28 April 1970. This series of photographs was taken with an Olympus half-frame automatic camera loaded with cheap film (as a teenager couldn't afford the best Kodak product!) The resultant slides deteriorated badly over the years hence the poor quality of these pics.

Craven heavy lift crane removing an "S truck" from the rail line. The derailment was caused by a wool bale partially falling out of an S truck after the train had passed through Mt. Kuring-gai station. As the train entered the platform area at Mt. Colah, the bale became jammed between the train and the platform, forcing the S truck to tip over. It took several other wagons with it, bringing down the overhead wiring and support structures.
