Margate is located in southeast Tasmania and has a population of around 3,400 (49.2% male, 50.8% female). Around 987 families live in the area and of those 46.0% have one or more children under the age of 15. 12.4% of families have only a single parent while 36.8% of couples have no children. Margate covers an area of approximately 5675 hectares or around 57 square kilometres (km2) (14022 acres).
