The area of Bridgewater was first travelled by European Robert Cock after whom the area was named Cox Creek. John Dunn erected this mill in 1860 and the name was changed to Bridgewater after his hometown in Somerset, England.

The decaying Bridgewater Mill was renovated and opened as Bridgewater Mill Restaurant in the 1980s. It also featured its cellar of Petaluma Wines from the vineyard planted in 1976

The waterwheel that originally powered the flour mill has been restored.

Behind the mill is this unusual chimney stack. The original lower half is in local sandstone, topped later in brick.
