The Heemskerck Seamount lies about 748 km (404 nautical miles) off the coast of New South Wales (show New South Wales on map).

In the near vicinity of the Heemskerck Seamount the water depth ranges from about 3410 to 5260 metres deep (about 1860 to 2880 fathoms / 11200 to 17300 feet). Based on this, the Heemskerck Seamount seems to rise about 1850 metres (1010 fathoms / 6090 feet) above the sea floor . This is almost as high as the height above sea level of Mount Kosciuszko but amazingly the top of the Heemskerck Seamount is still 3.4 km (1860 fathoms / 11200 feet) below the surface.
