We were prospecting for nickel at Cashmere downs
Around mid-day Monty would come round our camp looking for food, he measured 66 inches long
We took the name Monty after the dog Montmorency in the book 3 men in a boat, there being 3 of us

Shearers quarters, the homestead was occupied by Phil and his young family.
The climate was too dry to sustain their sheep, things were grim for them in 1970, not sure what happened.
Phil's in-laws had the store at nearby Sandstone.
My understanding is that no nickel was discovered, now the area is being explored with a view to mining iron

The bark hut at this bush camp was built by my pal Ken Starrick - 2nd from right - much cooler than the caravan for sleeping although quite often we slept outside 'under the stars'
On the left is Len, a true Ozzy bushman, next to him is Terry Harvey who lived with his family in Kalgoorlie
Standing is John who like me is from England -That's Cordy on the right
Len is sitting on the boxes of soil samples we collected
We named the little area Magville - part of our work was taking readings with a Magnetometer
The nearest pub and store was at Sandstone, about 65 miles away which we visited every fortnight or so
