The Thomson River in south Queensland starts at an elevation of 215m and ends at an elevation of 130m flowing into the Cooper Creek.

The Thomson River flows through Yarraman Waterhole (197m), Longreach Waterhole (185m), Rio Waterhole (180m), Dinah Waterhole (151m), Mahoney Waterhole (150m), Goongoon Waterhole (148m), Mailchange Waterhole (148m), Flaggy Waterhole (148m), Carella Waterhole (147m), Woolleys Lagoon (147m), Pelican Waterhole (139m), Twenty Mile Waterhole (136m), Fifteen Mile Waterhole (135m), Woolscour Waterhole (133m) and Twelve Mile Waterhole (132m) on its way to joining the Cooper Creek.
