The Buffalo River in central Victoria starts at an elevation of 434m and ends near Merriang at an elevation of 206m merging with the Ovens River.

The Buffalo River drops around 228m over its 65.3km length.

The Buffalo River flows through Lake Buffalo (266m) on its way to joining the Ovens River.

11 creeks and rivers flow into the Buffalo River. The five longest tributaries are: Dandongadale River, Catherine River, Buffalo River West Branch, Buffalo River East Branch and Yarrarabula Creek - click here for a full list of all 11 tributaries of the Buffalo River.
