The Gara River in northeast New South Wales starts below Llangothlin at an elevation of 1280m and ends at an elevation of 388m merging with the Macleay River.

The Gara River drops around 892m over its 90.6km length.

The Gara River flows through Guyra Dam (1273m) and Malpas Reservoir (1174m) on its way to joining the Macleay River.

The following creeks and rivers flow into the Gara River: Ryanda Creek, Powers Creek, Commissioners Waters and Cooney Creek.
