The Williamstown to Port Melbourne short road car ferry about 1960 before the days of the West Gate Bridge.. This ferry was powered by a steam engine and pulled itself across the Yarra river by pulling along two heavy chains which sank to the river bed to allow ships to pass over it. This picture was taken from the Williamstown side of the river.
